Energy does not appear out of nowhere; it must always originate from a specific place. This starting point is called a source. A source is a reservoir where energy is stored or naturally available, waiting to be used. Common examples include natural phenomena and fuels.

Before any electrical system can function, it must have a reliable connection to an energy source that can provide the necessary power.

Converters Transform Energy

Key Idea

Energy found in a natural source (like the motion of wind or the heat of the sun) is usually not in a form that can directly power household electronics. It must undergo a transformation first.

An energy converter is a sophisticated device designed to bridge this gap. Inside many of these converters, a specific machine called a generator operates to mechanically transform motion energy into electrical energy, making it compatible with the grid.
